Rana Sanga — Maharana Sangram Singh of Mewar — ruled from the fortress of Chittorgarh in the early 1500s, a Sisodia king of the sun-descended Suryavanshi line. Across some eighteen battles he is remembered to have carried as many as eighty wounds, losing the use of an eye, an arm and a leg, yet still rode out to unite the Rajput clans and carry Mewar to the height of its power.
